About Us

Clay Day Creations was founded by Melanie, a passionate potter who honed her craft in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Located near Lampang—the heart of Thailand’s pottery tradition—Chiang Mai provided the perfect setting for Melanie to train under a master of form on the wheel. Working in a studio with a reduction kiln, she developed a deep understanding of the chemistry behind reduction firing, refining both her technical skills and artistic expression.

Beyond the studio, Melanie explored the rich pottery traditions of Thailand, Laos, and Vietnam. A highlight of her journey was visiting a historic pottery village in Laos, where she learned about ancient pit firing techniques and the intricate two-person wheel-throwing methods still practiced today.

Now based in Peasmarsh, in the picturesque Surrey Hills, Melanie has established her own home pottery studio. She creates and sells unique handmade stoneware, often incorporating sgraffito and carving—techniques she loves for their expressive detail. As a member of the Southern Ceramics Group, she regularly attends workshops to continue expanding her skills and will be showcasing her work in their summer exhibit.

In addition to making pottery, Melanie shares her passion through workshops held in the peaceful garden of her home studio, as well as an after-school pottery club for young artists. Whether through her own creations or her teaching, she is dedicated to bringing the joy of handmade ceramics to others.
